What Are the SEA Games?
The SEA Games are the Southeast Asian Games, a biennial multi-sport event featuring athletes from 11 countries in Southeast Asia (the 10 ASEAN countries + Timor-Leste). In 2023, the event marked its 32nd edition.

The motto "Sport: Live in Peace" was inspired by Cambodians enjoying peace and stability. Sport serves as a catalyst for Cambodia’s economic and social transformation, aiming for an upper-middle-income nation by 2030.

A Brief History of the SEA Games
The SEA Games originated from the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games (SEAP Games) initiated on May 22, 1958, by Laung Sukhumnaipradit, vice-president of the Thai National Olympic Committee. The goal was to promote cooperation, harmony, and relations among Southeast Asian countries.
Founding Nations
Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, South Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia. They agreed to host the competition every two years, creating the SEAP Games Federation. The first edition took place in 1959 in Bangkok, featuring 12 sports and 527 athletes and officials.
Over the years, the Federation expanded
Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei joined; renamed Southeast Asian Games Federation.
Timor-Leste joined.
31st SEA Games in Vietnam postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19.
SEA Games - Hosts & Participating Nations
Next SEA Games 2025, 33rd edition, will be held in Thailand from December 9 to 20, 2025.
